While our baby & preschool activities include subjects our little learners enjoy, we also seek to nourish and equip their moms through discussion and fellowship with seasoned moms. Thus, under the facilitation of active and retired moms, there will be a targeted discussion topic for the moms while the children play and study form specific subjects.
These subjects are learned together with the whole SCHOLA co-op community. They occur at the beginning of our day with all of the students.
While the babies and preschoolers enjoy supervised free play, moms may participate in coffee and a guided book discussion.
The book discussion for 2025-26 is centered on Growing Kids God's Way: Reaching the Heart of Your Child With a God-Centered Purpose* by Gary Ezzo. Our discussion group leader will bring chapter summaries each week and work through the foundational ideas in this book with the moms. Moms will not be required to pre-read the weekly discussion section of the book, although they are always welcome to do so, as time/energy/season of life permits.
*Please note that we do not endorse every idea in this book. It is a launching point for discussion and each idea will be prayerfully and carefully considered in light of Scripture's truth.
Previous book discussion selections:
These subjects are learned in individual form classes, but are common to multiple forms. This allows us to teach the subject in a way that is appropriate and engaging for the age and abilities of the students. For preschool, these subjects are much simpler than at higher forms.
Nature Study - the preschoolers will have the opportunity to see what the older kids are studying.
Presentations - for preschool, this is just an optional "show and tell" time so that the children can practice standing and speaking in front of others.
Fine Artists & Composers - Our preschoolers will experience short, sweet version of these two subjects, focusing on practicing the habit of attention and introducing them to the beauty of fine art and music without burdening them with formal study.
These subjects are specific to the form and are not taught in other forms. This allows us to teach to the specific needs and abilities of the students.
Songs for Saplings - the children will listen to Scripture and questions with answers that teach Biblical truths through kid friendly songs.
Mini Literature Club - our littlest learners will listen to a fable, myth, poem, hero tale, or high quality picture book as we lay the foundation of story itself using carefully curated selections in each of these genres.
Physical Activity - little bodies will engage in rhythmic movements, simple games, and natural exercises like jumping, skipping, and stretching.
Mini Art Lessons - little minds and eager brains will practice the habit of attention while learning about the basic tenets of shape, space, and color through simple, age-appropriate art explorations and activities.
