Composer study is an opportunity to look and listen for beauty together! We train our eyes and ears to see, hear, understand, and appreciate the very best art and music that our culture has produced. Sometimes, this will help us understand history. Sometimes, we see what character strengths allowed an artist or composer to create such beauty. Sometimes, being familiar with great works of culture allows us to recognize artistic references. But always, knowing and loving true beauty will point us to a God who is himself beautiful, who makes things beautiful, and who created us to be sensitive to beauty and to long for a place that is all beautiful.
Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”
